COMPOSITION Soliprax: Each delayed release capsule contains enteric coated granules of Omeprazole 20mg.
INDICATIONS
Soliprax is indicated for the treatment of: Gastric and Duodenal Ulcers Gastro Oesophageal Reflux Diseases (GORD) Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome Stress Ulceration Dyspepsia (Heartburn) Acid Related Disorders Prophylaxis in long term therapy with NSAID.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Duodenal Ulcer 20-40mg once daily for 2-4 weeks. To prevent relapse, the recommended dose is 10-40mg (depending on the severity of the symptoms) once daily. Gastric Ulcer 20-40mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. For prevention of relapse in poorly responsive patients, 20-40mg once daily. NSAID Associated Ulcer 20mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. For prevention of NSAID associated ulcers, 20mg once daily. Severe Reflux Oesophagitis Soliprax 40mg once daily for 8 weeks is recommended. For long term management of patients with healed reflux Oesophagitis, the recommended dosage is 10mg once daily, this may be increased to 20-40mg once daily if required. Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome Initiate therapy with 60mg once daily; adjust according to individual response. In refractory cases, the recommended dosage is 20-120mg daily. Doses higher than 80mg daily should be in divided doses. Symptomatic GORD The recommended dosage is 10-20mg once daily for 4 weeks. If symptom control is not achieved after 4 weeks of treatment, further evaluation of the patient may be required. Eradication of H. Pylori Omeprazole 20mg daily with amoxicillin 500mg t.d.s. and metronidazole 400mg b.d. should be administered for 7 days. Other combinations includes: Omeprazole 20mg daily with Amoxicillin 500mg t.d.s. and Clarithromycin 500mg b.d. for 7 days.
Duration of Therapy: In most patients, 2-4 weeks of therapy is always adequate for resolution of the symptoms, if healing is not achieved, treatment could be extended to 8 weeks. Maintenance Therapy: Patients could be treated for a long duration with Omeprazole if the potential benefit outweighs the risk.
SIDE EFFECTS Soliprax is generally well tolerated. Nausea, headache, diarrhea, constipation and flatulence were the common side effect experienced with the drug.
PREGNANCY AND NURSING MOTHERS Although omeprazole has not been shown to have any teratogenic effects, its usage in pregnancy is not recommended. It is not known if omeprazole is excreted in human milk, its usage in nursing mother is not recommended.
CONTRAINDICATIONS Omeprazole delayed release capsules are contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug.
